As an aspiring author, I very often experience moments when I don’t quite know what to say. It’s strange, isn’t it? We rely on words to express our thoughts, yet sometimes there just aren’t enough of them — or the right ones — to truly capture what we mean. One of my favorite lines from Shakespeare’s Hamlet is “Words, words, words”, which is a reminder that, at times, words can fall short. But they can also take us far. You don’t have to be Shakespeare. Just stay motivated and write. And with limitless possibilities for storytelling, how far will your imagination travel?
Words are our tools of the trade, though them we spin tales that surprise and delight us, and that are full of dramatic, active scenes with lots of thrilling moments. And with limitless possibilities for storytelling, how far will your imagination travel?
With that in mind, let’s write some stories. This summer, I’m inviting you to explore your power (and limitations) over language. Whether you spin a story of bravery, adventure, or romance, let’s see how far you can push language to create something new.
When it comes to the Inkwell Short Story Contest, you can write about almost anything on the theme, but whatever your rhyme or reason, we want to read your short fiction. All we ask is that you keep the story under 5000 words.Only 6 luckywinners will be chosen. One of the largest prizes is a chance to see your words on the Inkwell website. We will also showcase the winners and their stories weekly, on multiple platforms. That’s not all. It opens up further opportunities where you can meet fellow writers through our events. Finally, we will champion you not only as one of our winners but as our alumni, part of the Inkwell family.
